Remember TV repair shops? Remember big tube television sets? How bout transistor radios? VCRs? Portable TVs? This old place in Brooklyn Heights has seen better days, even though their sign still looks new. G&D? Gone & Departed.
Well, someone is working in the basement. Did you peek in? The little shoerepair store has just closed here :( Now it is a *drumroll please* TV/VCR/DVD player/computer repair store. And, the guy puts fresh flowers on the counter every week.
Sad to see these shops go. WE are a disposable society, not working right, just throw it away and buy new. I remember all those you mentioned. I also remember LP albums, 8-trak tapes, flash bulbs for cameras.
You got to keep LPs for the album covers. Don't get them on a ipod. Even on this timewarp island of mine I'd be hard pressed to find a place like this apart from one that reconditions old sets.Dusty is right about it being too disposable a world and that includes people.
Right on. How often do you hear someone say, "My ____ is broken but it would cost more to fix it. It'll be cheaper to buy a new one." That's not right! I remember all of the above and have a box of LP's Babooshka that I can't throw out because of those great covers.
I'm in a love/hate relationship with virtual memory because of the way prices are always, and I domean always falling. I absolutely hate buying SD Cards for my R4 / R4i at (seemingly) a crazy bargain price only to see it become a whole lot more cheaper a few months later.

I wish they had stayed. There's something vibrant about places that repair things.
I love that sign...There's still a TV repair shop on Avenue B (11th and 12th?) that still seems to do a little business....

I still own and play about 1000 LPs! And my stereo uses tubes...

This was my grandfather George’s store. He was the G in G&D!
