SoHo coffee

Real New York coffee complete with old alpha/numeric phone number. Somewhere on lower Sullivan Street. And thanks to everyone re the nice commens for my Mom. She is 83, ill with all kinds of stuff, but she's hanging in there. What a drag it is getting old.

Welcome back Ken.

The idea that the shop has seen no reason to modernise this sign in, the past 50 years?, appeals to me very much.

Our Mom, (I have 3 brothers), is 89 and living in a care home. She's had a number of set backs lately which have caused us lots of fretting. Fortunately, she is nearby and I get down there most days.

Great sign, nice to see a bit of retro coffee house hanging in there!

Good to have you back :)

Nice sign indeed. It is somewhat surprising they haven't changed the phone number, but then again, why. I don't imagine they deliver coffee by the cup like pizza :)

Yeah, Manny's Pale Ale is quite refreshing!

Wow! Now that's one cool sign! I love it! It's great that they've kept the same sign all these years. The alphanumeric phone number is great to see. Sometimes I think I might have been born into the wrong generation. I love images of things from the 30's,40's,50's and 60's especially. Your blog is in my favorites and this is just one more reason why!

I send best thoughts for you and your mom and her health. I hope things get better for her very soon. I'm glad you were able to post a new photo today. I will check back often!

I am so sorry to hear your Mom is having to deal with health and age. It is a drag but hopefully someone someday will have figured out how to ease the process.

This photo is wonderful, and talking about age, I much prefer these vintage signs than what they can come up with today, same goes for old houses, old cars.

I have enjoyed visiting, you have a great blog.

KM,
I am so glad you're back. I never knew that what I called old timey phone numbers had that cool name. Still remember mine for when the earth was cooling. Damn, if only we could forget the stuff we don't need anymore and remember the new stuff we'd be in business!
Tell your mom all your goofy blogger friends are thinking about her. Gosh it's hard isn't it! Like I said, you are a good boy.

Yay! your back. You are a good boy,& Virginia is right we are thinking about your mom.
love this photo. I actually used to get a cup of coffee from there on occasion when I lived over on Thompson Street. The aroma walking into that place is amazing.

Does this sign say "expresso?" Is that New York slang for fast ("don't worry chief, I'll jump on that expresso"), or a misspelling of espresso?
