East Village Synagogue = Condos

Wanna live like an old rabbi in one the East Village's most beautiful buildings (on 6th street)? Then just drop a few million and this condo conversion is yours! One of the oldest synagogues in the East Village, "Chez Syn" (formerly the Anshei Meseritz synagogue) sports park views, close access to trendy restaurants and clubs, and even a jacuzzi on what was once the synagogue's altar! Talk about Holy Water! ! Move fast, this property won't last for long! In fact, the community is fighting its demolition. --NothingIsSacredDevelopers.com (this is no joke: http://thevillager.com/villager_277/thedevelopers.html)

Is NYC just to blase about old buildings that they'd let this get demolished?

Great shot of it, BTW.

Nothing really is sacred to developers! Not beautiful old buildings, people's livelihoods or nature. ='(

It should be criminal to destroy landmarks like this!

I read the article and found it interesting that the proposed 6-story building would have a synagogue on the bottom two floors. What?? I don't quite get that. I need to check out nothingsacreddevelopers.com next.

I note, also from the article, that it cost $15000 to build the original synagogue in 1915. In today's costs, that would be $303,856.81.
