Brooklyn Bridge & Obama

The country that can still produce a speaker as powerful and inspiring as Barack Obama is also the country that built this incredible bridge which spans the east river between Manhattan and Brooklyn. Heck, Barack and the Brooklyn Bridge make me proud to be an American!

Absolutely!

And what an inspirational shot you've given us today. Outrageously beautiful and showy and American. I can hear Gershwin playing right about now...

Yeppers. Am with you on that.
Now I only hope, that the american people will makes us proud, come November, and not fall for the same old and stale scare tactics...

Yes, a Gershwin accompanyment to the Bridge photo is appropriate. However, one of these days, the country will figure out that Obama is trying to sell them the bridge...

Yes, the Repubs have been shoveling scare tactics for years, now McCain with his crass choice hoping to get Hill's votes. Obama already wipes the floor with all of them. WE need someone to inspire this country, and he's got the goods. end of soapbox!

The bridge recently celebrated its 125th birthday. The designer, German immigrant John A. Roebling, was injured in the planning of the bridge and died of tetanus weeks later. His son, Washington, then took over but eventually died of decompression sickness (it was underwater work on the BB that taught us about the bends in diving) as did many of the workers. I love that bridge, it's amazing in so many ways - some of them sad - just like our USA. Thanks for the lovely image.

Can we talk about that Palin choice now?!

I don't know what to make of Palin. But thanks for that history lesson! I always heard there were some workers buried in the bridge's base..

It is an amazing structure and the views across the city are brilliant.

One word about Obama. Back in 1997 we here in the UK had a fanastic speaker who inspired and made us believe the country could be better - Tony Blair. And look how that turned out! Don't get me wrong, if I could vote in America it would be Democrate, but words are not all thats important.

I had to come back and look at this gorgeous photo. And as for Palin -- I'm absolutely thrilled that we've come far enough in this country that I can totally despise the politics of a WOMAN on a ticket for VP. I don't have to like her or like the motivation McCain had for choosing her to like the fact that things are shaking up, we're seeing women and people of color in places previously out of reach and by the time my little daughter is my age she'll wonder why anyone ever talked about race and gender.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox, too. I truly love this photo.

Hi Ken Mac! First of all many thanks for your comment on my post of 08.08.08 at 08h08 at Blogtrotter, now in Kos, Greece! It was great to read you there. Second, sorry for the long delay to come here, but August was a terribly busy month, as everybody else seems to be in vacation…
It was great that you commented there as it led me here: a great NYC blog! Love the pics, and look forward to seeing what happens on November 4th...
Wish you a great weekend!
