A Treat to Eat

I recently found an old stash of photos I shot in Harrison, NJ, which is right across the Hudson, first stop before Newark. I lived in Harrison for a year in 1990. This White Castle is gone, as are the establishments I will post in the days ahead. Gorgeous huh?

This looks very midwestern to me. I think Illinois was home of the White Castle, but the very best was Steak and Shake.

Pure Americana. My favorite thing.

This was really a "Blue Castle System" restaurant. I wonder how extensive that system was...

burgers on the backburner.

I admit I was fascinated by the combination of "Closed" - "Open 24 hours". Otherwise - all good things "must" pass.

An American classic.

oh my! We have some great burger establishments on Long Island here. "Great American Burger" in massapequa. "Five Guys" - everywhere now. Bobby Flays burger joint in Smithhaven mall..... I love burgers - almost as much as pizza!

Love this shot! I spent a fair amount of time around Harrison, Kearny, East Newark etc back in the late 80s, I remember this place. Never went in, but I'm sorry it's gone.

Still go to Kearny every once in a while, I guess it's the Scot in me!

Grew up in Harrison and always went to this blue castle. Also had a great breakfast. Love to see your other photos of Harrison. On the west coast now. Nothing like a little nostaglia. Thanks
