Sweetbreads, pork loins, veal cutlets, brains and clods as far as the eye could see and the nose could smell.
Girls love big eyed critters.
Old metal and girders....noisy rollers would move slabs of meat around the block...now it's all Stella McCartney and leather wearing Europeans looking for the High Line. I prefer the old stench.

The hookers are still around KM, you'll find em one of these days. Relocation. This place is yet another memory you've saved for ous. You're the best..... you do know that don't you??

I'll have some clods, please!
One of my favorite blocks...always sunny on that corner, despite the ugly monolith that recently went up to the south. Will be sad to see this go...
I don't know which I like more -- the Raymond Chandler prose or the lovely woman petting the cow.
oh boy. How cool? Are these old photos?
I just heard from friends that there are places in Brooklyn which have live poultry served up for you. Have you heard of this? yikes.
"The Finest Nature Veal" sign should be in a museum.
Super choices of pics and words.
Can you update the post to say when the pics were taken??? People will want to know.
These are wonderful. Great photos.
The hookers moved closer to the tunnel .. West 13th is still a photo op in progress
Love that top photo, Ken.
I agree with you. Sometimes progress, isn't.
and leather wearing europeans....
dont get me started on prejudices :)
There was a butch shop around the corner where I grew up, I remember going in with my grandma and the sights and smells of it. They kept the cows out in a pen in the back. I remember the news of a bull getting out when they went to cut his throat and it was running wild through the streets, although I was very young, the story may not have been as large as I remember,lol...now Meat Packers is gone and in it's place is another car dealership.
I meant to say "butcher shop" not butch, lol
Wow, this would do in my beautiful vegan wife!
