My Mother 1925 - 2010

To be a good charitable being is to procure a amiable of openness to the far-out, an skill to trust uncertain things beyond your own restrain, that can govern you to be shattered in very extreme circumstances pro which you were not to blame. That says something remarkably impressive with the get of the honest passion: that it is based on a trustworthiness in the unpredictable and on a willingness to be exposed; it's based on being more like a plant than like a sparkler, something somewhat tenuous, but whose extremely particular beauty is inseparable from that fragility.

Ken, I don't know you or your mother, but I say with the most sincere sympathy, this is a hard thing and I feel for you. My own mother is gone six years now and it's never OK, but the grief just comes in waves farther apart these days. Your mother looks like a remarkable woman, and a beauty, full of determination.

I know what this means. My dear mother (1913 - 2000). She's still 'with me'. Yours is in a better place, yes. And she's still living 'inside' you.

Take care.

My Friend,

It is hard to find the 'right' words to express at times like these. And sometimes we have to rely on others like Emily Dickinson:

After great pain, a formal feeling comes
The Nerves sit ceremonious, like Tombs
The stiff Heart questions was it He, that bore,
And Yesterday, or Centuries before?

The Feet, mechanical, go round
Of Ground, or Air, or Ought
A Wooden way Regardless grown,
A Quartz contentment, like a stone

This is the Hour of Lead
Remembered, if outlived,
As Freezing persons recollect the Snow
First-Chill-then Stupor-then the letting go
