Grieve: Many moons ago it was an ice cream shop. Then it was the greasiest of spoons, with its refrigerator case exposed to public view, displaying processed meats in various shades of gray. Absolutely delicious and satisfying $2.50, 2 a.m. bacon cheeseburgers, though. And not a bad place to park yourself at one of its outdoor tables and have a beer or two on a pleasant afternoon. Then came this place with its unlisted reservation phone line and "secret" entrance to the inner sanctum. So it goes.

Wasn't there a diner here before...? One that got bought and gussied up?
Even a faux diner is better than no diner. There a far too few diners in my life.
