A Visit to La Parisienne

Located on a busy stretch of Broadway not far from Carnegie Hall, La Parisienne is a classic old school NYC diner. Steaks Chops Seafood. What more do you need? The shores of Cyprus? No doubt painted on the wall by the proud owner's daughter...
And here he is, counting the days' receipts
In the 50s and 60s the "King" label was a prized part of diner and fast food iconography. You saw Super King, Burger King, King Malt, King of Foods everywhere in anywhere USA
It may be working class, but La Parisienne has a taste for the better things, like their yummy banana pudding...next time I try the chops

I think this diner may play an important role in a number of novels...ah, phooey, I can't remember...something about the burglar...

Anyway, it looks like a fun place!

You just so reminded me why Applebee's is not MY neighborhood restaurant.

Beautiful shots, Ken - makes me hungry. Did Jacob mean the Lawrencce Block "Burgular" series? He always used real NY spots; bookstores, bars, etc.

Thanks Cleanpill. Re Jacob's comment: I dunno. I don't even know the author but it sounds like one to check out.

Very cool and the interior is not at all what I expected.

You said: "why does it look like you are peering out from between the rails of a chicken coop moving down the highway? Splain!"

I don't know. lol I just took the picture up close to a white fence. I used the slats of the wooden fence to give it a spying effect.

I live in Paris, but I'd still like to try this place. I can't see any similarities with anything in Paris though!

but its not on Broadway, its on Seventh .. the M104 now goes down Seventh and I pass this every morning!

Daryl said...

Ken, since the M104 route was changed and there's a whole new vista to take in I have been looking out the window and there's a bus stop right across from La Parisienne otherwise I wouldnt have known it was on 7th vs Bway
