sure to fall

The Civil War mansions left to rot in Brooklyn Navy Yard are near collapse. Though two of the five mansions have been slotted for restoration, they are about to drop at any minute. Last time I shot Admirals Row, last summer, the structures were mostly intact. As you can see above, the back wall of this mansion is gone. Chances are the City will let them all fall, so plans for a much needed supermarket in this impoverished era can be realized. Still... a modicum of thought from the anti preservationist Bloomberg administration would have gone a long way towards appeasing all parties.

This makes me terribly sad. Can't we be a bit creative and reuse some of these wonderful old buildings for modern needs?

This is sad to see the history just falling to pieces.

Demolition by neglect! It happens here too - there ought to be a law.

You have the old mansions, Tulsa has historic old bridges, all gone to ruin. It is the way of things I suppose. The old must make way for the new.

It must have been quite a building during its heyday. So sad to see it in this shape.

even structures seem to have a life cycle and reach senescence.

It would be nice if they could save the facade, or at least a portion of it, for the next structure that goes up in its place.

I think you may well be right and the end is now almost inevitable. Pity though our history is all around us provided we do not demolish it all!

A shame to see architecture go to waste and make way for yet another big box store.

Nice piece of history... my dad would love love love to see these ruins. He was a civil war re-inactor (?? - not sure how the heck to spell that one).
