America's first Western Union building in Tribeca is holding a celebration. The window's are full of memorabilia, including these telegrams from Jack Kennedy, Edward R Murrow and Duke Ellington
Fascinating. The Ellington one reminds me what an interesting life he led. And what a good book "Lush Life" was. Its sort of a duel biography of Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
very cool! I hate to think how these historic pieces are fading in the sunlight, though. I hope it's only for a short time that they're being exhibited like this.
Hey Ken Mac: We LOVE this post with these primary source materials, right there in Tribeca! Given Edward Murrow's connection to Greensboro, we linked to this post and gave you a little mention in our comment section.
Do you have sufficient snow pictures yet? We're ready for a change of pace! Excessive cold and snow here, too. Enough already........

Excellent! Celebration and history extended beyond the bounds of NYC!! Thank you, KM! Duke Ellington's note to Ms. Fitzgerald is so delightful!
I LOVE the one from Duke to Ella. So romantic!
Your post makes me wonder that given we're in the age of email and texting, what services does Western Union offer now?
western union transfers money, cold hard cash@
From a simpler time. I guess we could say Western Union was the original texting.
i love these vintage memorabilia...
A real blast from the past! Thanks.
