Leaving the "er" off hamburger was once something I heard daily, but now it's been a long, long time. What an odd nostalgia trip. Nice pic!

Great signs! I've never been to Scranton, but have seen lots of great signage in old Pennsylvania towns, often in inverse proportion to the town's prosperity. The poorest towns seem to have the best signs.

You asked about my avatar. The Half Moon is in my home town of New Orleans. Love this guy's Flickr pic:

Thanks for that info and link Brooks. I wonder, which poor towns in PA have the best signs in your estimation? And thanks as always for visiting.

Very good signs!

Thanks for the wonderful photos, Ken.

Wish I could remember specifically which towns. The bus to Allentown passes through several old towns, and I've spotted good signs from the bus window. Allentown itself probably has a few good signs in the forlorn downtown area.

Armed with a car and a map, you could spend whole weekends photographing the old towns of NY and PA.

Maybe Pottsville too, home of the Yuengling brewery. (And the brewery tour is pretty interesting.)

I love these signs.

Hope you had a drink at the Sonata!

This just in from a friend in Allentown:

"Unfortunately the last ten years have wiped out the last of the old signage here. Don't think it'd be worth a trip. Pottsville seems to have stayed stuck, in a good way. You are right about the little towns west of here, they should be worth a couple days road trip."

Sorry I can't be more specific. Will be more observant in the future!

Kenny Mac, if you're still in PA, this seems right up your alley:
