254 West Fourth Street

On a block that is rapidly being turned into a playground for hipsters and the well heeled, this old building at 254 West Fourth Street is a relic, a ruin, a reminder of the old Greenwich Village. This crusty doorbell probably hasn't been painted in 30 years. Down the block, Fedora, a 60 year old restaurant, is about to change hands, and perhaps not for the better. New York City is turning in a "luxury city" that few can afford, but a few old buildings hold on.

Oh yes! Nice work... the excitement of a grand find is often in the small treasures.

Wow, that must have taken some detective work. Wonderful photo.

Well seen and photographed. I like the rich warm brown tones.

How sad when the well-to-do take over, I think. This rusty door bell is a treasure.

It's sad to see them slowly disappear.
