Picasso's Portrait of Sylvette

The city Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to landmark the I.M. Pei-designed Silver Towers and its central Pablo Picasso sculpture, "Portrait of Sylvette," in Greenwich Village at 100 and 110 Bleecker Street and 505 LaGuardia Place. The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation first proposed landmarking the Greenwich Village modernist buildings in 2003. New York University owns the buildings, and is planning on building a 40-story building within the complex, which the buildings' new landmark status will make more difficult.

I think this sculpture is amazing! I like the way it looks in this shot with that great old building in the background.

Sculpture and human together make a great pair. That building is landmarked, huh?

That's a nice and big sculpture.

It is interesting... picture is nice but I suggest Picasso was more than a little strange!

The figure really puts some perspective into this image.

It is well past time that Historic Preservation recognized Modernism.

Beautiful sculpture and photo.

This is a picture of Greenwich Village? How come it doesn't conform to my preconceived idea of what Greenwich Village looks like? Someday, when I actually visit Greenwich Village in person, I'll have to check up on this.

It's nice to hear the NY isn't demolishing all its historic and beautiful structures.

Just catching up! NYC movies won't be the same without the Coney Island scenes. It was the most "old world" outing I had when visiting New York. That Nathan's Hot dot stand. Oh, thank you for sharing. At lease the Landmarks Preservation Commission is saving the IM Pei and the Picasso sculpture!

Oh!!! I had no idea it was there! I'm guessing you must be pleased with the landmark status. ;)

What is the light colored building in the background? Do you have a tag line on public art in NYC?

I love this photo! Love also the building architecture. Very NY to me.
