At first glance I thought the sign said "Idea Hospital," and I thought, "Boy, is that an oxymoron."
Then, I actually read the sign. I don't think there's any idea hosiery, either. Living in Florida negates the need for socks (hosiery?) most of the year.
In fact, it negates the need for shoes most of the year. Sandals work just fine, I've found!
I like this photo! The architecture of this old building, with narrow windows and red bricks looks to me the "picture" of NY. I know NY only by photos, movies, tv... too bad... Lol!
I don't know what LES stands for either but I am guessing a part of NYC?
Now to the word "hosiery". I only ever thought of hosiery to be stockings. And yet here is a store advertising Men's Hosiery. And it is an old old sign.
In the USA is hosiery socks as well as stockings? Over here in Australia socks is socks ...

Wow, that sign looks old
Cool shot. Something about New York, old signs... out of interest sake... LES? :)

You've got a way with color, buildings and point of view that's interesting.
Sean & Julie - I've always taken LES to be Lower East Side. If I'm now proven wrong I'll be gutted!
And as someone who's quite particular about their hosiery I fear I'd be disappointed if I took the sign at face value ;-)
Great pic though - Good to have you back Ken x
ha, funny to think that men wore hosiery.
I don't recall seeing this sign before. I'll have to look for it!
One of these days I'm going to turn a corner and our camera lenses are going to collide.
Best sign in the 'hood.
Mens hosiery?! What is that?!
what a cool vintage sign! wonder how old it is?
Ken..it is good to see you back posting photos. Sure didn't take you very long. How are you feeling?
I like such a old sign.
It talks much.
Love the sign, Ken. Too bad that ladies' hosiery have not been ideal since sometime back in the 70's.. THANK GOD! Such nasty hot things to wear.
