Valeri Larko: Urban Landscapes

Leacy and I spent the weekend a few weekends back in Clinton, New Jersey, a historic town on the Delaware. An artist was displaying her renderings of New York's barren industrial wastelands at a small gallery. Unfortunately, I don't recall her name. Don't sue me!

Ken - I thought I had your e-mail address but I guess I don't. Anyway, the photo you were asking about was taken in East LA, on E. Cesar E.Chavez Ave., just west of Soto in Boyle Hts. In the 30's 40's and maybe 50's Boyle Hts was the Jewish section of town before it moved west to the Fairfax district. Now its totally Hispanic.

It was of the few times that I've seen the place empty.

these are really quite beautiful. The first one reminds me of your photo from yesterday.

Very cool.It looks like Photoshop to me. I just got P.S. so I'm obsessed with it.

Btw, both pictures in my blog are Philadelpia, "Eastern State Penitentiary".
The one that looks like Mexico is just a Photoshop experiment. Hey That could to be a title for a future post or even a blog. "Philadelphia Photoshop Experiment" ;-)

I do not have a talented bone in my body and so I greatly admire it in other people.

These look like like old-timey, hand-tinted postcards, save the subjects.

They do look like hand-tinted postcards on the screen. Very beautiful.

She seems to have captured the abandonment very well.

Valeri Larko: Urban Landscapes
She is a New Jersey resident

In person, these paintings are gorgeous.

All her paintings are created on location, an approach that enables her to form relationships with both the environment and its inhabitants. Informed by encounters with people she meets while on location, Larko considers the process of painting to be as important as the final work.
