Bowery Faces & Facades

The Bowery was once skid row and home to the City's pizza oven retailers (really!). Now it's a tony, upscale stretch for hipsters and the art crowd. But in between the blue glass and perfume, a few old faces remain.  Like our friend above..
Lovely detail on a threatened building
"Auctioneers and Appraisers" Of What?
The "EL" of an old flophouse hotel sign, now covered in steel and blue glass....

I wonder if there used to be a whole list of things underneath "auctioneers & appraisers" at one time.

That's great all the old period features are still there

Some of those buildings really have great details, but I'd rather not have that face, thank you.

These old details are becoming rare and hidden treasures. Thanks for digging them up before they vanish for ever.

great details!
funny they would build over the hotel framework instead of tearing it down.

I'm glad...it's nice to see bits of the old peeping through

Yikes, and yikes!

That's truly an ugly face.

I'd think it must be quite a job to get these places ready for the arty and hip crowd...

But I'm glad something good is going to come from them...
