I love California's Googie architecture. Love it. But as in NYC, LA can't wait to smash the beautiful old and replace it with the plastic, crap-tastic modern shite of today. "We just learned that the new owners of Norms La Cienega have a demolition permit for the iconic Googie coffee shop at 470-478 La Cienega Blvd. The Conservancy and our Modern Committee submitted a local landmark nomination for Norms late last year that the city’s Cultural Heritage Commission will hear tomorrow (Thursday). We don’t anticipate the new owners acting on their demo permit today, but just in case, if you’re in the area, please keep an eye on it. If you see anything happening – such as the removal of the signage (fence going up, big equipment, guys in hard hats), please call the Conservancy immediately at (213) 623-2489. We’ll keep you posted. Learn more about this issue on our website: https:// www.laconservancy.org/ issues/ norms-la-cienega-coffee-sho p "

Wow, I had a dream about this place last night. and What it was like, after hours
Sorry, let me put in the lame link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8rsq6lYrwU
always sad when a story is finishing.. good by Norms...
Oh my.....Norms was the first place I was taken to on my first trip to USA to visit a friend who had moved to LA.....1984..... we had the all-day-breakfast.... unheard of in UK..... the waitress offered me 'whole, wheat or rye' and I just sat there dumfounded, unable to comprehend such a question. We also use to go to the Hard Rock where the British boys who worked there gave us free drinks and the discovery of the tuna melt doubled my waistline.... in Britain adding cheese to tuna fish was way in the future......I pretty much ate LA!!
Yep, I've lived in the neighborhood for years and it is probably the oldest, most distinctive building of that era still standing. Sad but not surprising as La Cienega's experiencing a real building boom.
I love the look of this place. It is sad when people do not realize what a beauitful piece of history they have.
