Located on an old Spring Street block of ancient Irish bars, including Emerald Inn, EAR Inn, and McGoverns, old grand old stands guard while gentrification surrounds him on all corners.

Make 'em stop, Ken Mac.
Love the names. Wonder if this was part of the Irish ghetto way back when.
The Emerald Inn is the bar that played host to "The Terminal Bar" in Scorsese's "After Hours." I can't walk down this strip anymore without getting depressed. Too much development. It's lost its once endearing atmosphere of urban desolation.

Looks as though it should just throw it's hands in the air and say, "I surrender". After all, it is surrounded you know. Sad but true.

A friend of mine used to work at the Ear Inn many, many moons ago. Hard to believe it is still there.

Do I need to march right up there and help hold fort??V
And BTW, When you come on down here for the Cheyenne THING, bring the galpal with ya.
nice work on the blog. you do realize, however, that spring street isn't in tribeca, right?
A cogent point. It abuts Tribeca, but it's still considered Soho, I believe.
That's progress for you. A little sad it is.
yes, Spring is not Tribeca! I walk around in a daze down there...over there...somewhere....
not Soho either! I think Soho stops at 6th Avenue. It's the far west village...or maybe not..
Don't worry - whatever it is, developers and new landlords will come come up with some asinine acronym before too long...
cleanpill's back!
You capture very well how a contemporary building enhance an otherwise common older building.
