Phebe's Tavern

One of the last of the true Bowery bars, Phebe's has been on the corner of East 4th and Bowery as long as I can remember. It's seen tenements where the Beats and Dylan hung out transformed into glitzy, designer hotels and gas stations turned (literally) into $$$ eateries. Phebe's remains, proud.

  2. This was an old hangout for me. Because CBGB's had the most disgusting bathroom we would race up the Bowery to Phebe's to use their facilities, grabbing a shot or a beer while we waited our turn. It's also where I and some friends hosted Quentin Crisp's 80th birthday party.
