I studied at NYU in the fall of 2000, and this photo perfectly captures the dream-like quality of my first days and nights in the city: Learning my way around on long walks, feeling comforted by the sight of the Trade Center towers farther down whenever I started to feel lost--I remember them looking perfectly "framed" in the distance by/under the Washington Square Arch--reading books on the benches, watching outdoor chess matches for the first time. . . . Has the park changed that much? This photo captures the city's magic as I remember it. Beautiful shot.
I love this. Have been propositioned for dime bags many, many times here over the years.
