Signs of the times. I occasionally see these pop company signs but they are usually painted over. Coke, Pepsi, 7up, et al have found more effective ways to advertise. Such as fluorescent lit vending machines the size of truck.
I love this shot, KM -- and all of your old NY shots. THere is something so comforting and hopeful about these subjects to me. (I'm weird. I find tattered noir settings hopeful!)
You can find everything in those shops when you are not in a hurry. Wonderful! We have quite a few of these in the big citues here in Italy as well, and they are often run by the same families for years! Enjoy your weekend, Ken!
Hi Ken Mac, Thanks for your nice comment on my grandparents's photos. I agree with you, I think both would love Flora as much as I do! And I think also that if Flora meet you, she will love you too! Have a nice weekend!
I like this shot but I prefer the precedent post. The photos of to day and of before are very beautiful.especially the last one we can think we are in a film.
This made me laugh. I'm sure they have erasers shaped like the statue of liberty inside and I'm With Ugly t-shirts. They must have just opened for the day, right? Because the postcard racks are outside, but the newspapers haven't been opened yet.
Sadly, I have not been to NYC, yet. Aside from the canyons of skyscrapers, I have a similar image in my cranium similar to our warehouse district in Minneapolis. Love this shot, except for the I "heart" NY shirt - screams tourist stop here to me.
where is that?
ReplyDeleteThe sign indicates that work went into making it as opposed to electronically generated.
ReplyDeleteGoa still has a few of these kind.

ReplyDeleteWhere is this? It's another cool shot.
Wow, I just noticed the I Heart NY shirt in the window that looks about circa 1978. That's great.
ReplyDeletehey everybody, that is the corner of Bleecker and Carmine, across from the old church. I heart NYC!
ReplyDeleteI love the coke signs on the sign :)
ReplyDeleteLove this photo! This little shop looks NY to me!
ReplyDeleteAnother era. Again so evocative to me of Cassic American Cinema of another age. I know I do equate cinema to photography to much.
ReplyDeleteNew York is definitely not my favorite place but you do have some lovely shots of it here Ken Mac.

I see what you mean. Also like the CocaCola/Newspaper-Tabacco sign, it's very dated!
