Banksy Banality of Evil

Here, Banksy painted a Nazi into a preexisting painting, which he bought from a thrift store. Afterwards, he returned it to the thrift store. Wonder if they noticed.

Not sure if Banksy will ever be one of my favorites, but at least with things like this, he's stirring things up.

I think Housing Works auctioned it for around $600,000, but the buyer withdrew, and then there was some brou ha ha about the auction process. Some talk of a Bansky pre-arrangement with H.W.. Don't know how it all panned out.

I had never heard of Banksy until you started featuring him. Is he considered a street artist or a jokster kinda artist like he demos in this photo -- wry sense of humor. -- barbara

Just the other day I was in a conversation about "The Blue Rider" group. They're pre-WWI Germany, but they got me thinking again about Germany's intellectual and artistic history, including music. The Nazis were probably not so much intellects as dilettantes, investors, and ravagers, but the possibility of a connection between the German intellect and the Nazis is weird and chilling. So I think what Banksy's done in this pic is both relevant and disturbing. What does evil see when it ponders beauty and nature?
